Digital and analog technologies are different and there are good and bad things about both. Here are some arguments for both sides:

Why is digital better?
- You can store more information on a smaller space.
- Example: a cassette tape can hold 10 songs. An iphone can hold 40,000 songs.
- Digital information can be encrypted when it is sent to someone else. This can make it more secure.
- Example: If you find a treasure map on paper (analog) then it can be seen by anyone. A digital map could be encrypted before it is sent.
- Digital information can be edited and modified easily.
- Example: Digital photos can be touched up.
- Example: Music can be edited easily and made into playlists.
- It can travel long distances without losing quality.
- It can be copied and shared easily.
- Analog can be more accurate or precise
- Example: A clock with a second hand gives more information than a digital one with no seconds.
- Analog information can last longer
- Examples: We have really old books and letters but most emails have probably been deleted.
- Technology that is only 20 years old may not be accessible with today’s technology
- Analog things can have more of an emotional attachment
- Example: We keep and display books but not ebooks
- Example: We keep old records but not digital
- Analog can be more visually appealing
- Example: Analog watches have more of a classy look
